Adam Block's Food Culture

The Salons @ Earth Week does not only celebrate sustainable creative design and business, it embraces creativity in the kitchen. Adam Block, our keynote speaker is the operator and owner of PRINT. Restaurant, where the Salons @ Earth Week luncheon will be held. Salon Diners can look forward to an insightful and entertaining talk on “What’s Next in Sustainable Food Culture”.

PRINT. Restaurant is the perfect Earth Week location because it is all about seasonally sourced food turned into great cuisine. Block’s overall vision for PRINT. Restaurant was to create an experience that not only delivers excellent dishes for diners, but also provides exposure to local suppliers that support organic and sustainable farming.

The term 'farm to table' couldn't be more accurate. Fresh food cooked to perfection, with dishes that highlight intense natural flavours, rather than smother them. Ingredients are seasonal and locally sourced. As the availability of seasonal, local foods changes from day to day, PRINT. employs a full-time forager, to track the ingredients that can be showcased on the menu. The restaurant’s décor is designed to complement the food, tasteful but not overdone.

As the Principal and Founder of Block & Associates, Adam Block has advised some of the most influential restaurants, hotels and casinos in the world and has developed and consulted on projects for restaurateurs such as Thomas Keller, Paul Bertolli, Charlie Trotter, Tyler Florence, and Alice Waters. Block’s clients and projects can be found in some of the world’s greatest culinary markets including New York, San Francisco, London, Singapore, Paris and Las Vegas. The New York Times describes Block’s consulting work as that of a star athlete manager, “who can fit talent with golden opportunity, the alchemist who can help chefs make big money.”

Most recently, Block completely revamped and developed the food and beverage dining program at Southern Sun’s iconic world class Sandton Sun Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa. Block drew inspiration from South Africa and its resources; in the first year of operations the restaurants won Joburg’s Best Hotel Restaurant Award, Best New Restaurant Award, Diner’s Club Platinum and Gold Awards, and South Africa’s RASA Rosetta Award.
